WEB TOOLS: ANALYTICS
Web Analytics is sometimes called Traffic Analysis. It is the study of the behavior of visitors to your website. Analytic software tools track visitors page visits on your site, determines how they entered your site, which pages they spent most time viewing, which pages they made a purchase from, and from which page they left your site. The information gathering can help you determine which pages on your website are most frequently converting and which pages are underperforming. Used effectively, a plan should then be developed to better optimize under-performing pages.
Companies use Web Analytics to learn which online marketing campaigns produce the best results, which are the most cost effective and to see how visitors interact with your site. Based on the Web Analytic reports interpretation, clients can then make beneficial design improvements to their site. They can do a better job of driving qualified targeted traffic, increasing their conversion rates and profits.
Companies sometimes create different landing pages and use web analytics to carefully track the results so that they can see which out performs.
There are two different approaches to collecting web analytics data. They are called logfiles and page tagging. The first method, logfile analysis, reads the logfiles where the the transactions are stored. The second method, page tagging, uses JavaScript to track traffic. Each of these methods have their advantages and disadvantages.
The data collected may include many different metrics including web traffic reports, user performance data, e-mail response rates, sales and lead information and more.
Data collected almost always includes web traffic reports. It may also include e-mail response rates, direct mail campaign data, sales and lead information, user performance data such as click heat mapping, or other custom metrics as needed. This data is typically compared against key performance indicators for performance, and used to improve a web site or marketing campaign's audience response.
